Consider surveying a road in great detail and the effort required to plan all the relevant parties to undertake such an exercise. Or just drive it like any other road user!
Our Mobile Road Survey system is a car that captures data from 4 high resolution laser scanners and 6 digital cameras on a car platform. Enabling data to be captured to high accuracy at normal driving speeds and presents a cost effect method of capturing large volumes of data in short periods of time, with the welcomed benefit of eliminating the requirement for traffic management and consequently the additional costs and delays in organising and providing safe working arrangements.
The system will not only provide accurate positional information for road surfaces and street furniture within the highway corridor, but enables detailed attribution of captured features using the high resolution geo-referenced digital imagery which is produced as part of the standard process.
In addition the data may be of benefit to other organisations, such as the emergency
services, in defining access routes and other dimensions relevant to their role, and to
local authorities responsible for these routes.
Our MMS-X system here in the UK, in working partnership with PASCO and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation provides full 360 degree coverage, collecting image data and complimenting these sensors are 2 further independent systems. A GPS “Giro” with multiple antennae and a dead reckoning Inertial Measurement Unit, Fibre-optic gyro and odometer offering additional backup where the GPS signal is poor.
