Mason Land Surveys provide services to some of the UK’s largest architectural practices, construction companies, heritage agencies, estate managers and local authorities. Services provided include:

Surveying the site

Assessing the condition of the site is the first step in any design or conservation project. It is important to have suitable plans, to know the topography of the land, the structures present on the site and the conditions or land use on adjacent areas.

The main provision of such information is through an on-site topographic survey conducted by a team of surveyors. Alternatively photogrammetry can be used to extract topographical information from aerial photography. Typically a survey captures building footprints, paving, roads, vegetation, services and contours.

Mason Land Surveys have more than 30 years experience of providing high quality topographic site surveys both from conventional survey and photogrammetry. Digital output can be layered into a customer’s schema of choice.

As-built surveys can be produced to update the topographic survey of the site during development and once development has finished.

In addition to providing new surveys, Mason also provide Ordnance Survey mapping and Get Mapping aerial photography.

Measuring buildings

A measured building survey provides the plans an architect, designer or facilities manager requires. Using a combination of methods and instruments, Mason will capture the dimension and contents of any building. Floor plans, ceiling plans, sections and elevations can be created and provided as CAD files and plots.

Infrastructure can be measured and inventoried for input to a facilities management program. Roof plans can be produced from aerial photography, ground survey or laser scanning.
Mason Land Surveys have surveyed many thousands of buildings for a diverse range of clients from small architectural practices to large property owners. Buildings surveyed include private homes, commercial premises, social housing, banks, government buildings, church properties and heritage structures.

Recording history

Mason have worked for prestigious organisations such as English Heritage and Historic Scotland to record the features of some of the UK’s best known buildings and monuments. A variety of techniques can be used to record information. To capture ornate features and stonework close range photogrammetry is often used.

Mason also deploy their laser scanner to produce a 3D point cloud to capture visual and positional information. Real photography can be draped over the point cloud to produce a realistic 3D visualisation of the structure. These 3D visualisations can also be generated as movies; providing a visually exciting method of presenting a structure to the wider public via CD/DVD and the internet.
